The Shack

I am slowly reading this new book called "The Shack". It's a story, but teaches about the true nature of the trinity. Apparently there is a lot of controversy on the net about it because of God's character being played out as an African American woman who loves to cook and bake, the Spirit being an Asian Woman who enjoys gardening, and Jesus being a Middle Eastern looking man who is a Carpenter. Really, i have absolutely no issues with God being whatever he / she chooses to show himself as, because heck I'd do the same if it meant someone dropping their defences and talking with me... Could have been worse, God could have been portrayed as a punk ass skate border or a librarian (not that there is anything wrong with either one of these things...). Have the people complaining about this book never heard of Parables? Jesus spoke to a generation about things culturally relevant and in the words of his time? Silly fundamental right winged Christians!

ANYWAYS... the real reason I am writing about this book is not to get into sucked into a pointless argument like above, but to share what I am getting from it... Look at this quote...

"A bird's not defined by being grounded but by his ability to fly. Remember this, humans are not defined by their limitations, but by the intentions that I (God) have for them; not by what they seem to be, but by everything it means to be created in my image."

So read that 10 times slowly before you read on... Just because you may think you're smart and think you got it the first time, but you didn't, so read it again, and again...

The world defines us quite often by our limitation. Just a great reminder that we are who we are because of being hidden in Christ, nothing more or nothing less... and the kicker- there is nothing we can do to change that!
