THE REV

Had a wonderful talk with a new friend last night. Funny how there are some people you can know for years, and never feel free to share your heart with them, and others you feel so connected to them that if you were not a Christian, you would say you shared a past life with them. I was more than encouraged, and prayer was very releasing (for lack of any other word..). This guy is a "priest" and is 71! I would have never thought I could sit with someone for three hours and trust them enough to share my heart. This guy has so much wisdom, but also kinda acts like he has none. In the drop-in, this 71 year old man comes in, and the kids always ask him if he'll give them a cross. (He always wears one big wooden cross arround his neck) The first kid that asked for a cross was at youth Court Teusday morning... The Rev. took off his own cross he was wearing, and blessed her, and put it over her head... Last week there was one youth asked for a cross, and this is what happens... The Rev. asks if they'll always wear it, and never take it off, they answer yes, then he puts his hands on their head, says, Father God will you please bless so and so and keep them safe,(sometimes the prayer varries) and LAST WEEK ONE OF THE NEWER KIDS STARTED TEARING... I think I was the only one that noticed.

This leaves me to wonder... Caleb always talks about the Family gap in out churches, and I know that we are also experiencing a HUGE generation gap. Even myself would have never seen me trusting a man of 71. I have always wondered how an older person could minister without offending, without being in your face. God has given this man the most gentle and accepting spirit. He loves the kids I love! and He does not find me weard! He confirmed me, and confirmed me, and it has been so long since someone has just given a spiritual encouragement to me! Like a breath of fresh air...

I guess just a big thanks to God on this one, because i would have never believed a 71 year old man could walk into a drop-in and just be... Christ to the kids. (Forgive us Father of our (my) small and human mind...
